Newest Desire.

I'm ready to hunt this down.

Birthday Gyal.

               If it's one thing I'll share about myself, its that I've been an avid thrifter since I was 13. --before the hype. This 1980's Niteline Della Roufgali dress was hustled down to 30 dollars >.< at one of my secret vintage thrift boutiques. I'm not into name brands but I was definitely a fan of the quality & the sizing chart- size 4 fit like a glove. If only today's size charts understood what a real size four should look like. *Curves.

Muhsinah? On the come up.

        Muhsinah- an amazing vocalist that has her own work put out such as Day Break & feat. in songs with The Foreign Exchange, is going on her FIRST ROAD TOUR! .... not to my home town... yet, :'( *tear drop, but none the less she is making her mark here in the States.
So far 8 cities have been confirmed which are the following:
Durham, Charlotte, Atlanta, Birmingham, Austin, Dallas, Memphis and St. Louis.

Nothing seems to be super duper final as of yet, but to check out more information click the link below.

I think the first song that made me fall in love with her sound three years ago was the cover she did to Radio Head's "Scatterbrain"... did i mention her drobe is colorful & eclectic? ... she warms my heart.
Enjoy her funk & the black screen-- she's worth every second.

ME-OW.

As quoted on the Boxing Kitten web-site, "The vintage inspiration behind Boxing Kitten celebrates the spirits and lives of women who have come before, and the playfulness and vibrancy of each piece captures the women of today and the future." I came across Boxing Kitten back in 2009 and just oozed over their pieces for three years, until yesterday! For Christmas my special someone bought me the Gathered Strapless Dress (Birds), [to the right] and now I am able to ooze over my very own Boxing Kitten product. The quality of the dress, as I put it on, was very well done; the fabric was thick and true to it's size which allowed the dress to fit just right. Over all I am overwhelmingly satisfied with my dope Boxing Kitten Dress.

Thank you Akins!

The TOMS Movement

In a recent article written by
 OKA contributor Thiat Makinwa, from the http://www.okayafrica.com/ website, the issues taken with TOMS were exposed. Though I myself am a TOMS supporter the point Makinwa was trying to make was very forward, to say the least, here's a clip from the article below;

"One of the areas directly affected by TOMS’ injection of free goods into a respective community is the local shoe industry. Contrary to what TOMS might have you believe, local shoe makers do in fact exist in many of these areas. However, instead of assisting the local industry by providing funding or other forms of sustainable business growth and development, TOMS bypasses these local businesses and strips these communities of their agency " (Makinwa, Thiat. The Trouble With Toms. Images taken from http://www.okayafrica.com/)

    Now, TOMS Bogo model, (Buy One Give One) is clearly something they have committed too and though Makinwa makes the point in other parts of the article that consumers are under the impression they are ending poverty, this isn't a mind set that TOMS is now responsible for. If the TOMS company makes it their mission to give a pair of shoes to those in need then their mission has transparently been accomplished. We can not blame them for the misconception that our consumers are under, besides the fact that it would be silly for us, the common people, to believe that buying a pair of shoes is going to end world poverty, because it isn't. I must say that when I did get my gift of pair of TOMS I knew the money spent on them was at least making more of a difference then most regular purchases made. However, if TOMS is doing exactly what they said they were, then can we really point fingers?
